Abstract

The need of the extraction of an artificial cardiac pacing device is not exempt from complications, and may involve an increase in morbidity and mortality, even in expert hands, despite the improvement in the technological performance of these devices. The state of leads is the main obstacle for an effective and safe extraction of implants (more adherence, greater difficulty). The extraction is, therefore, advised to be carried out by experienced health professionals. We describe the nursing intervention procedure on the extraction of artificial cardiac pacing devices in the operating room of Cardiac surgery (Virgen del Rocio University Hospital Seville).
