Abstract
Study Objectives: Procalcitonin has been proposed as a reliable serologic tool to be included in the diagnostic protocols of sepsis and related syndromes; it has been also shown to be useful as prognostic factor both for predicting the progression to septic shock and multi-organ failure and for monitoring the response to treatment. This study was aimed at establishing decisional thresholds of procalcitonin levels and assessing their application in the management of patients with suspected sepsis in the emergency department.
