Abstract

AbstractThis chapter intends to motivate the reader to go further in the quest for nonlinear control based on models with convex structure. Besides some preliminary definitions and control objectives which are common to most control techniques, the wide variety of models with convex structures is briefly visited, their advantages and drawbacks described. It will become apparent that convex structures lead to numerical rather than just formal design, something valuable for practical engineers since most formal nonlinear techniques cannot handle systems with order greater than 2 or 3, or without a special form.
