Abstract
The object of this paper is to provide detailed information on the methods and procedures of scaling control and elimination, within the upper portion of the well structure in Hungary. Recent investigations and tests were planned to develop a routine and economic scaling control method for the majority of thermal water wells. The most appropriate method seems to be, according to the results of various tests and experiments, periodical acid treatment under operating conditions which ensure the continuous flow of thermal water wells liable to scaling. Acid treatment can be carried out by the well-operators themselves, at reduced costs, with simple equipment. This work can also be done at the same time by a service company, according to an acid treatment schedule. Acid treatment has the advantage of being an inexpensive operation of only a few hours duration. The necessity and importance of this type of acid treatment in thermal water wells combined with the hydrodynamic surveys should be emphasized. It is supported by the direct relationship between the chemical composition of the thermal waters and their tendency to scaling. On the basis of preliminary investigations, taking into account the local conditions and circumstances, the use of other control methods treated in this study must not be eliminated if it seems more simple and effective in particular conditions.
