Abstract

wildlife conservation and management in Kenya, and identifies land use practices, innovations and conflicts. Questions of competition for land use, potential threats to wildlife and historical factors of land issues are examined. Problems of wildlife conservation areas are outlined, including ecological considerations and the impact of increasing numbers of visitors leading to conflict between economic and conservation objectives. There is a need for the examination of wildlife management strategies to identify ways that would guarantee sustainable conservation, such as the involvement of local people and consideration of their immediate livelihood strategies, perceptions and values by policy makers and planners.
