Abstract

SummaryPhillips, S. M., Brummitt, R. K. & Molloy, B. P. J.: Problems of types with duplicate specimens. ‐ Taxon 41: 728‐730. 1992. ‐ ISSN 0040‐0262.The definitions of the various categories of types in the Code are somewhat ambiguous, and have been interpreted in conflicting ways by different authors. In particular, problems have arisen where a single type collection cited in the protologue consists of a series of duplicates. When is lectotypification necessary? How should the term ‘syntype’ be interpreted? Amendments to the wording of the Code are suggested with the aim of achieving uniformity of practice.
