Abstract

The study of primitive times in the past few decades has shown many seemingly effective and persuasive models and constructs being smashed and discarded. Some 40 years ago scholars found logical and indisputable the postulate that the earliest apelike men of the Chellean and Acheulean phases only gathered vegetable food and caught small animals and knew nothing about either fire or life in caves! Whereupon (so the scenario went) the great glaciation set in, and the Neanderthals switched to hunting large animals, settled in caves, and mastered fire.
