Abstract
Among the socioeconomic developmental perspectives endorsed by the Twenty-sixth Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union), was the task of preparing for the gradual transition to the enrollment of six-year-old children in [the first grade of) school, in a five-day school week program. The basic guidelines to be used in tackling this socio-pedagogical task were laid down in a resolution that was issued jointly by the Central Committee of the CPSU and the USSR Council of Ministers on January 22, 1981 (no. 108).
