Abstract

Some contemporary notions of style appear to be so disparate as to defy satisfactory integration. In some respects, they also seem to depart from traditional stylistic theory. On closer inspection however, it appears that they may be viewed as complementary, rather than disparate, and thus consistent with traditional ideas.
