Abstract

SUMMARY Long-term cannulation of the jugular vein was carried out in lactating ewes under farm conditions. Illness appeared 10 days after the insertion of the tubes. The symptoms arc described. Death due to pulmonary infarcts frequently occurred. The administration of Malayan Viper venom allowed cannulation for up to 8 weeks. The principle was given intravenously every third day ( 0·01 mg./kg. body weight of crude extract). A technique for the insertion of the tube is given.
