Abstract

This paper investigates pair production for the case when the field ceases to produce pairs, so that the concepts of vacuum in the remote past or future are well defined. Processes in a constant electromagnetic field are examined, and the use of a constant field to separate systems coupled by short-range forces is explored, and atom ionization by the field of a plane electromagnetic wave is discussed.
