Introduction

Agriculture is the mainstay of the Doda district, most of the people lives in rural area and typically subsistence agriculture is practiced. The study area lies in the outer Himalayan range in Jammu & Kashmir state spread between 32°-53 ́ and 34°-21 ́ north latitude and 75°1 ́ and 76°-47 ́ east longitude. It lies in eastern part of state. It is said that one of the ancient Rajas of Kishtwar whose sphere of influence was extended beyond Doda swayed one utensil maker Deeda, a migrant from Multan ( in Pakistan), to settle permanently in this territory and set up a utensil factory. With the passage of time the name Deeda has changed into Doda, the present name of the town
