Abstract

Abstract Associativity is defined as the association between features in different layers in Land and Geographic Information Systems (LIS/GIS). The associativity problem occurs when the changes in one layer cannot be transmitted automatically to the associated features in other layers. In which case, the correct relationships between features in layers cannot be maintained and accurate analysis cannot be done. This paper examines the causes of the associativity problem in the states of Victoria and New South Wales in Australia, and how some of the utility companies in these states are tackling the problem.
