Abstract

Linke, H., and Thomas, S., 1975. Problems and objectives of landscape architecture and landscape planning in the German Democratic Republic. Landscape Plann., 2: 1–11. Landscape planning constitutes an integral part of landscape architecture training at universities in our country. In nationally owned enterprises, landscape planning staff cooperate with other specialists on the basis of legal regulations, e.g. the “Landeskulturgesetz” (National Environmental Policy Act) of 1970. Territorial planning is closely linked to economic planning, particularly with regard to the building industry, forestry and agriculture. The plan is the result of collective work and is voted on by representatives of the people. Therefore, it is a compulsory planning base for all areas of territorial development. This paper deals with individual parts of the plan, such as nature conservation, nature reserves, preservation of historical monuments, selected sites, problems of engineering biology and the creation of new landscapes in former mining areas.
