Abstract

ABSTRACT There is an increasing interest to understand nursing. One way is through nursing theories. As a theory can be rather abstract there is a risk that the distance between theoretical nursing and nursing practice will increase. In a research project nurses decided to choose King's theory of nursing as a means to understand nursing. Descriptions of problematic and meaningful nursing situations were labelled with concepts from King's theory. King's theory of nursing seems to be a useful but not a comprehensive tool for the understanding of nursing. Additional concepts have to be used to make possible the labelling of all described situations.
