Abstract

This paper is concerned with general systems and problem-oriented languages for finite element analysis. The main features which characterize a general system are discussed in the first part. Then, a brief survey of the basic capabilities of the major systems available is presented. The final part includes a description of the more important features of the LORANE system. The LORANE system is a family of problem-oriented languages for engineering applications, developed by Brazilian universities. It includes procedures for linear and non-linear, static and dynamic analysis, including random vibration analysis, for solid mechanics problems, and circulation and dispersion models for hydraulics applications.
