Abstract

The current stage of Ukraine’s development demonstrates a considerable boost of demand in Ukrainian society to learn foreign languages in connection with the rapid progress of Eurointegration processes. Effective study of foreign languages acquires exceptional relevance, which in turn stimulates improvement of the process and improvement of the quality of the professional training of foreign language teachers. The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of the development of the problem of professional training of foreign language teachers in Ukraine in the period which began with the declaration of independence, and until 2004. The methods used in the study are theoretical ones and include analysis and synthesis, comparison, generalization, induction and deduction, abstraction and concretization, which help to theoretically elaborate scientific facts on the problem under research. In addition, the historical and genetic method was used to trace the preconditions to identify certain tendencies and regularities, and then to create a scientifically substantiated base for the interpretation of historical realities which had directly influenced the peculiarities of the development of the professional training of foreign languages teachers in Ukraine during the abovementioned period. As a result of the study, the normative documents which appeared during the specified period were analyzed and their influence on the development of the professional training of foreign language teachers was determined; the range of problems which arose, and the ways to overcome them were outlined; the main tendencies in the process of development of professional training of foreign language teachers in Ukraine were also introduced, as well as the prospects for further researches were determined.
