Abstract

Rationale: Postoperative ileus (POI) is a common complication after surgery, adversely affecting postoperative outcomes. However, currently, therapeutic strategies to cure POI are lacking due to the unclear mechanism. Increasing evidence suggests that enteral nutrition and probiotics have been reported to prevent intestinal compromise and improve intestinal function in many diseases. In this study, we therefore investigated the effect of probiotics supplemented enteral nutrition (EN) on POI and the underlying mechanism.
