Abstract

I shall discuss the use of radio galaxies to study the Universe during its first few billion years. After presenting evidence that a fundamental connection exists between nuclear activity and galaxy evolution, I shall review some properties of distant radio galaxies. There are several arguments that these objects play an important role in the formation evolution of galaxies and clusters. The last part of the talk addresses some fundamental questions that arise from this work and discusses how they can be attacked during the first decade of the new millennium.
