Abstract

The photocatalytic transformation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) has been studied in aqueous slurries, on powders and on immobilized particulate films of TiO2. These results are compared to those obtained using gamma and pulse radiolysis in order to establish a comprehensive picture of the 4-CP reaction pathway in TiO2 systems. The disappearance of 4-CP and its reaction intermediates in TiO2 slurries involves a combination of hydroxyl radical oxidation, direct electron transfer and surface chemical reactions.
