Abstract

Abstract The Australian bivalve species Maccoyella reflecta (Moore) and the New Zealand M. magnata Marwick are compared. It is concluded that the holotype of M. magnata, the only available specimen, falls within the range of variation shown by specimens of M. reflecta. Although the specimens are probably consperific, with magnata a probable junior synonym of reflecta, the New Zealand specimen (magnata) is in the interim identified as M. cf. reflecta. In Australia M. reflecta occurs with other mollusc species, including ammonoids, of Late Aptian age.
