Abstract

Background The economic crisis has lead to an increase in unemployment across Europe. Job losses and the associated insecurity have negative consequences for health, although these effects can be mitigated by strong employment protection policies. In this paper we ask whether unhealthy persons are more likely to lose their job in times of economic crisis and if higher levels of employment protection can mitigate this impact.
