Abstract

Abstract The contribution of renewable energy resources to the power system reliability is influenced by the uncontrolled power supply from the highly variable energy sources. Power system reliability and stability can be decreased from the high wind penetration. In order to maintain the system reliability, energy storage systems (ESSs) can be used to smooth out the fluctuations and improve supply continuity. This paper is aimed to analyze the power system reliability in China, when the multi-ESSs are connected to the power system with large scale renewable energy. The research is focused on developing reliability models for evaluating the benefits associated with wind turbine generator (WTG) and ESS in power systems. An interactive method using a Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method that incorporates WTG and ESS operating strategies is developed and employed in this research.
