Abstract

A general-purpos e probabilistic program, UNIPASS, is used along with a curing simulation code and a Finite Element analysis code for the probabilistic analysis of thick composite plates. Two probabilistic models are presented; a Component-prob lem formulation where the maximum displacement in the plate is the only constraint considered, and a Series-problem formulation where both displacement and stress considerations are combined in the calculation of the structures' probability of failure. The sensitivity parameters of the probability of failure with respect to the material and manufacturing uncertain variables are calculated and conclusions are drawn concerning the relative importance of these variables in the design problem.
