Abstract

Video streaming applications have emerged as the most dominant traffic sources over the Internet. In addition, the edge cloud is accelerating the video sharing process with the help of social networks. Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is a promising paradigm for future fast Internet. ICN is location independent (free from IP address), and serve “One data for one Interest”. Video streaming applications over ICN need to send multiple Interest packets for video segments and enhancement layers due to changing network conditions. Moreover, media presentation file can be inaccurate to use with ICN. In this paper, we propose a proactive caching scheme for video streaming over ICN. The proposed video streaming approach for ICN not only supports connection-less streaming with limited Interest packets but also reduces the video content access delay up to 50% by proactively caching video contents close to the clients.
