Abstract

Background: Progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) is a relatively stable precursor of the gastrin releasing peptid. Studies suggest that the levels of ProGRP in blood play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. Neuron specific enolase (NSE) is also a useful marker for detection of SCLC. NSE was seen as a predictor of survival independently of other prognostic factors. The relevance of serum NSE as a tumor marker for SCLC has been demonstrated in several investigations.
