Abstract
Bulgaria is facing serious economic problems. Privatization is going slowly and painfully. High unemployment, poor working conditions, lack of proper health and safety systems at work are only some of the problems faced presently by the trade unions. Yet there is still a place for optimism. Examples demonstrate that privatization of state enterprises accompanied by proper legal requirements and trade union involvement can, in fact, improve working conditions.
