Abstract
Indian Railways is a 167 years old service that has been provided by the Government to its citizens. With the changing economics, the government of India has been considering privatize it. The purpose of this paper is to understand the history of railways and the reaction of masses to the privatization of railways; if the decision of privatizing the Indian Railways that has been taken by the government is supported and appreciated by the general-working-class-public or not and what are their views about it. It is also to understand if railways will remain as the preferred mode of transport.
