Abstract

If extra staff and resources are not put in place before winter to avert a repeat of this year's crisis, the public will lose faith in the NHS, commented Christine Hancock, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing. Addressing the opening session of the college's congress in Bournemouth, Ms Hancock said that the people who delivered and received health services had to ‘feel the difference very soon’. Ending the practice of keeping patients waiting on trolleys in accident and emergency departments was considered a top priority.
