Abstract

The diversity of risk taking behaviour is very important, as it includes high sensation sports, non protected sexual intercourse, dangerous moped driving… After defining risk and risk taking behaviour we’ll analyse in a developmental approach the role of these behaviours during adolescence. Although risk taking may have a positive role in autonomy in teenagers, the consequences are desastrous in accident figures. We’ll take dangerous moped driving to illustrate this noting. We’ll analyse the specific and non-specific major vulnerability factors in the young risk takers in motor vehicles. Among risk factors, the need of stimulation characterised by personality dimension sensation seeking seems to be a principal factor. In the discussion, we’ll focus on the heuristic and preventive approaches of risk taking as source of high sensation and as considered its relation to accidentology a and dependence disorders.
