Abstract

AbstractRenal tumours are the second most frequent extra-cerebral solid tumours in children. The macroscopic analysis of these tumours is a major step of the pathological workup, as it may direct the microscopic analysis, help to evaluate prognostic criteria (post-chemotherapy changes, blastemal volume, subgroup classification, etc.), and allow frozen samples for molecular analyses. The International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP)-Renal Tumour Study Group (RTSG) has issued recommendations for the macroscopic analysis of these tumours by the pathologists according to the ongoing Umbrella protocol.
