Abstract

In recent years, the introduction of new technologies and applications connected to the Internet has demonstrated the physical incapacity of current optical backbone networks in providing resources soon. One of the main proposals to deal with this problem today is space-division multiplexing elastic optical networks. However, to transport the massive amount of data that is being generated today, these backbone networks should provide efficient resilience mechanisms. We propose a routing algorithm with a protection mechanism that considers traffic priority for elastic optical networks space-division multiplexing. The results obtained demonstrate the proposed algorithm’s high efficiency in establishing resilient high priority connections compared with recently proposed algorithms in the literature.
