Abstract

A comparative study of the performance characteristics of a printed 8-element V-shaped circular antenna array with two director elements to obtain a V-Yagi based array operating at 5.8 GHz for vehicular direction-finding applications is presented. The array performance was improved as compared to [1] in terms of operating bandwidth and directivity. A director is added to the V-shaped antenna elements and a modified GND plane is considered for such improvements. The arrays were fabricated on FR-4 substrates with 0.8mm thickness. Both antennas show wide bandwidth of over 1.2GHz and gain values for all elements range between 2.1-3.1 dBi at 90 degrees elevation.
