Abstract

AbstractThe desirable properties of the basic methods for quantitative trait loci (moments method for estimation, least-squares parameter estimation, least-squares solutions for a single parameter, least-squares solutions for the general linear model, maximum likelihood estimation for a single parameter, maximum likelihood multi-parameter estimation, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing for MLE, methods for maximum likelihood functions, derivative-free methods, first derivative-based methods, Bayesian estimation and minimum difference estimation) are presented in this chapter. Least squares and maximum likelihood estimation are described in detail while, the moments method of estimation and Bayesian estimation are discussed in cursory.
