Abstract

The principles of aphasia therapy regarding Luria's general neuropsychological theory are laid out. Luria emphasized that cortical reorganization depends on the role played by impaired function within the functional system. Two modes of functional reorganization, intersystemic and intrasystemic, are differentiated. Luria pointed out that before adequate retraining can be planned it is necessary to analyze the neuropsychological nature of speech disorders and to discover the fundamental factors to which they are connected.
