Abstract

Short-term psychotherapy is a technique with a long history of development and a some solid data supporting its effectiveness. There is also some evidence for cost effectiveness in terms of medical utilization. Certain broad principles involving patient selection, relative contraindications, and treatment appear common across different therapeutic styles.
