Abstract
This two-volume text offers comprehensive coverage of all aspects of pediatric surgery. It is organized into very innovative sections, which provide a clear review of both the basic science aspects of pediatric surgery as well as providing up to date discussion of all areas of clinical practice. Chapters are included that provide an introduction to the topics to be discussed in the ensuing chapters, an approach that serves to organize the topic and review the upcoming categories. New areas of pediatric care are included, such as a comprehensive chapter addressing childhood obesity and the surgical treatment options. The editors have chosen authors on the basis of their areas of expertise; therefore, each chapter is written with unusual insight into the practical aspects of disease in addition to providing valuable clinical pearls. The authors are not restricted to surgeons, but rather, they come from appropriate disciplines to provide more than a passing address of the topic. The tables and figures are accurate, helpful, and clear. Algorithms are provided where appropriate and facilitate review of text material. I find this new text to be a refresh-ing, innovative approach and treatment of the ever broadening topic of pediatric surgery.
