Abstract
In the past twenty years, we have seen enormous shifts that impact teaching adults: • Dramatic increase in the diversity of the student population. • The role of technology in all areas of the lives of adults. • Real estate is a global business. • Working adult students: Students face unique challenges with work, family, education, time constraints, financial resources and numerous other responsibilities that they must juggle while pursuing an education. • The need to relook and reevaluate the adult learning principles. With all these changes, my purpose for updating my philosophy is to continue to reflect on and to improve my classroom interaction and effectiveness for adults. I want students in my educational program to learn and reach their professional goals. This paper sets forth my approaches to program planning, teaching, budgeting and evaluating programs for adults. It includes how values and ethics can be applied to adult education; and it illustrates how personal histories influence education (Apps, 1985, 1981; Caffarella & Baumgartner (2007).
