Abstract

LINT cleaners are used extensively in cotton gins to remove foreign matter from the fibers to improve grade. The principles and forces used by the lint cleaner to remove foreign matter are also used to remove a portion of the fine dust or respirable dust from the lint cotton. The two main forces utilized in the lint cleaner to remove dust particles are mechanical and pneumatic and are applied at three major points in the machine. These principle forces were analyzed using the basic physical laws that were felt to control the removal of fine dust from the lint cotton. The theoretical analyses suggested maximum pneumatic forces of about 3.1 x 10 8 N and maximum mechanical forces of about 2.96 x 10 6 N in a modern commercial lint cleaner..
