Abstract

Installing active power filter (APF) can improve the quality of electricity supply. Current-source APF (CS-APF) has better control capability, quicker response, easier protection. However, it is less efficient than the voltage-source APF (VS-APF). The replacement of the inductor of DC side with a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) coil can reduce the power loss. Therefore, it can have better efficiency performance. This paper introduces the operation principle and mathematical model of the active filter with superconductors, and the results are compared with the general CS-APF.
