Abstract

ABSTRACT This shows the first results of the population census taken in 1990 for the town of Angers. As in 15 out of the 30 French towns over 200.000 inhabitants the population of the city center has known an increase when compared to the 1975- 1982 period. However there are great disparities between the center itself which enjoys renewed favour and the periphery where two opposite trends are to be found : the decline is going on and spreading in the neighbourhoods which have big blocks of flats whereas the parts where the housing supply (small blocks of flats and individual houses) matches the demand tend to grow.
