Abstract
Principal dimensions of Peruvian purse seiner were analyzed to determine in future the purse seine size of a small wooden purse seiner. Also, the comparison between Peruvian and Japanese purse seiner was undertaken. Principal dimensions adopted are length overall (Loa; ft), breadth (B; ft), depth (D; ft), gross tonnage (GT; t) and engine horse power (HP; ps). Registered length (Lr; ft) was used to compare between Peruvian and Japanese boat. The data of 1969 for Peruvian and from 1959 to 1970 for Japanese were utilized. Principal dimensions of Peruvian wooden boat could be expressed as, Loa/B=3.42, Loa/D=7.63, GT/(Loa×B×D)=0.00724 and HP/GT=3.36. Comparing the Peruvian and Japanese wooden boat, the former has the dimen-sions of larger B and D for the same lr, larger GT for the same Lr×B×D but smaller HP for the same GT.
