Abstract

First record of Porphyrio flavirostris (Aves, Rallidae) in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. The first record of the Azure Gallinule, Porphyrio flavirostris (Aves, Rallidae) in Santa Fe Province, Argentina is presented. An individual was observed and photographed near Puerto Ocampo in northeastern Santa Fe Province, within the Middle Parana River floodplain. The space–temporal features of the record in the species phenological context are discussed. The absence of historical data for the species in the area suggests that it might be the observation of a vagrant individual. However, the spatio–temporal characteristics of the record, which suggest the likely occurrence of the species in the area under certain hydrological conditions and within their seasonal migration pattern, do not allow solid conclusions.
