Graças ao livro pioneiro de Octávio Brandão, o Partido Comunista do Brasil (PCB), já em 1924, ofereceu uma contribuição original à análise da sociedade brasileira. O encontro do positivismo e do comunismo, no final dos anos 1920, configurou a expressão mais avançada da cultura política da esquerda brasileira. Nas décadas seguintes, grandes intelectuais comunistas foram protagonistas da elaboração do programa nacional-democrático da revolução social brasileira.</span>
