Abstract

We present a fatal case of primary Vibrio vulnificus septicemia in a patient with chronic alcoholic liver disease. The patient had recently consumed raw seafood. The epidemiology and clinical presentation of Vibrio vulnificus infection is discussed. Preventive, early empiric therapy, and aggressive search for this organism in patients at risk is stressed.
