Abstract

SummaryPrimary production studies were done on the Kaputei rangeland, in Kenya, between February and November 1973. Wire exclosures were erected in five different sub‐areas within the main study area and clipping was done in plots in the exclosures. Productivity rates ranged from about 3,546 kg/ha per year to 4,881 kg/ha per year. About 7.5% of the production was used in grazing by a large number of herbivores. Trampling by all kinds of animals in the area played an important role in herbage utilization, as did herbivorous invertebrates and human factors.RésuméDes études de production primaire furent réalisées dans la région de Kaputei au Kenya entre février et novembre 1973. Les taux de productivité vont d'enrivon 3.546 kg/ha/an à 4.881 kg/ha/an.
