Abstract

The rotational and vibrational energy distributions of S 2(a 1Δ g and X 3Σ − g) generated in the reaction of S(3p 4, 1D) with thiirane C 2H 4S are measured, using the laser-induced fluorescence technique. Nascent energy distributions are approximated by Boltzmann distributions with rotational and vibrational temperatures: T rot = 3000 ± 500 K and T vib = 6000 K for S 2(a 1Δ g); T rot ⩾ 4000 K and T vib = 1200 K for S 2(X 3Σ −1 g). Relative product branching ratios from S( 1D) + C 2H 4S under thermal collision conditions are estimated to be 0.14/0.30/0.56 for S 2(a 1Δ g)/S 2(X 3Σ −1 g)/S( 3P).
