Abstract

1. Incidence of primary pneumococcal peritonitis has been reviewed and the difference between primary and secondary variety has been pointed out. 2. Etiology with a particular reference to the origin of infection of peritoneum by pneumococci in primary pneumococcal peritonitis has been discussed in detail. 3. Clinical picture of the disease has been described. 4. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of cases of acute abdominal conditions in children have been fully discussed. 5. Course, prognosis and treatment of the disease has been described. 6. Three cases of primary pneumococcal peritonitis in female children between 5 and 8 years of age have been reported and a comment has been made.
