Abstract

Omental torsion is a rare condition of acute abdomen. We present a 76 year-old female with progressive abdominal discomfort and pain which lasted 3 days. Physical examination showed tenderness and rebound pain localizing at the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Emergency operation was performed under the impression of acute appendicitis. During the operation, a normal appendix and omental torsion with ischemic change were noted. Partial omentectomy and appendectomy with drainage were performed. She was discharged uneventfully. The literature on omental torsion is reviewed.
