Abstract

SUMMARY The incidence of primary carcinoma of the urethra with a review of the literature is mentioned. The ætiology of primary carcinoma of the female urethra with special reference to the lesion of urethral caruncle is discussed. A case of early malignancy in a urethral caruncle is reported. The therapy used is described and twenty months' follow‐up is given. A plea for conservative therapy in the very early case is made, as opposed to extensive surgery. The importance of examining, microscopically, all urethral caruncles, polypi, and hypertrophic mucosae that are removed is stressed.
